CasaRay separates instantaneous power from accumulated usage, keeps solar, grid, home load, and battery roles clear, and only predicts when the available Home Assistant data supports the calculation.
Read power and energy as different measurements
Live solar, grid, home load, and battery flow describe what is happening now. They normally use watts or kilowatts. Today, Week, and Month views describe energy accumulated over a period and normally use kilowatt-hours. CasaRay keeps those concepts separate so a current 5 kW export is not confused with 5 kWh used during a day.
Battery level is only the beginning
When compatible Home Assistant entities are available, CasaRay can combine battery percentage, charge or discharge power, capacity, and backup reserve. The Home summary keeps the most relevant state compact. The Energy screen provides the fuller explanation.
- Level: the stored-charge percentage reported by the battery.
- Reserve: the portion intentionally held back for backup use.
- Runtime: an estimate based on usable energy above reserve and the current discharge rate.
- Charge time: an estimate based on remaining capacity and the current charge rate.
These are rate-based estimates, not promises. Solar production and household consumption change. CasaRay leaves an estimate out when the underlying entities cannot be correlated safely or the required values are missing.
For multiple batteries or multiple same-kind meters, CasaRay keeps values within a compatible Home Assistant device or storage family. It suppresses ambiguous combined percentages and incomplete home totals.
History follows the Home Assistant calendar
Today, Week, and Month are calculated using the Home Assistant home’s timezone when it is available. Complete source-specific series can remain visible even when a whole-home total would be incomplete. Gas and water histories are kept separate from electrical series and from each other when their units differ.
Frequently asked questions
Why does CasaRay sometimes omit a battery estimate?
Charge-time estimates require battery level, current charge power, and a capacity source: reported capacity or compatible remaining-energy data from which capacity can be derived. Runtime estimates additionally need backup-reserve context and current discharge power.
What is the difference between live power and energy history?
Live power is an instantaneous flow measured in watts or kilowatts; history is accumulated energy over time, usually measured in kilowatt-hours.
Does CasaRay respect a battery backup reserve?
When Home Assistant exposes compatible reserve and battery metadata, CasaRay uses it as context and does not describe reserved energy as freely usable.
